Our Telescopes

The society has a number of telescopes that can be used by members on observation nights  and on an ad-hoc basis.

Celestron EDGE HD 14" Aplanatic Schmidt Telescope – Sky-Watcher EQ8 GoTo Mount

EdgeHD is an aplanatic, flat field Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope that produces aberration-free images across a wide visual and photographic field of view. The optical system was designed to reduce more than just off-axis star coma; it also provides an astrograph-quality flat focal plane all the way to the edge of the field of view.

Vixen VMC200L Maksutov Cassegrain Telescope – Sky-Watcher EQ5 GoTo Mount

Featuring an improved design and optical properties, this compact Field Maksutov-Cassegrain system is the answer to all SC devices. The Meniskus corrector is located directly in front of the secondary mirror. As a result, the Field-Maksutov does not require a correction plate on the telescope aperture, which quickly becomes covered in dew when exposed to humid air. The long focal length allows you to make detailed observations of planets, distant galaxies, individual lunar craters and mountains and many other celestial objects.

Skywatcher 8” Newtonian Telescope – Dobsonian Manual Mount

The Skywatcher 8" Dobsonian Telescope is an affordable large-aperture scope and very popular with amateur astronomers of all levels. The 8" aperture gathers enough light to enable you to not only view the Moon and planets in our solar system but also allows for detailed viewing of stars, constellations, double stars, nebulae and galaxies, giving you a stellar viewing experience. The patented Tension Control Handle means the mount will properly stabilise the optical tube so the telescope can remain in its desired position to view an object and will maintain its position even when the mount is rotated.

Meade LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain 8”  – Built in GoTo Mount

The Meade 8" LX200 ACF telescope handles your observing and imaging needs with ease. Incredibly compact for its aperture, yet with a robust and solid fork arm mounting for a vibration free image. Push button controls, automatic locating and tracking of celestial objects, and a wealth of object data at your fingertips in the AutoStar II hand controller. A mechanical mirror lock will completely eliminate any residual image shift — ideal for astro-imagers. Both visual astronomers and astrophotographers alike will appreciate the quality and capability of this beautifully made telescope.

Orion 10" Newtonian Astrograph Reflector Telescope – Sky-Watcher EQ6 GoTo Mount

Optimized for astrophotography boasts 10" parabolic primary optics with a very fast f/3.9 focal ratio for exceptional wide-field, deep-space imaging performance. Even faint galaxies and nebulas exhibit stunning detail with limited exposure time when photographed through this large-aperture astrograph with a CCD imager or DSLR camera. You'll get incredibly bright, crisp images that will make apochromatic refractor aficionados green with envy.

Televue Pronto 70mm Refractor – Wooden Ash Panoramic Manual Mount

Producing natural stellar and planetary color rendition, the Tele Vue TV76 APO Refractor Telescope is a superb instrument with APO performance of the Nagler design, a fully multi-coated 2-element objective, and an expansive 5.5 degree rich-field.

The Tele Vue TV76 APO offers magnificent views of "showpiece" objects that are too large in angular diameter to fit into a small field of view telescope. The TV76 uses 3" (76 mm) true apochromatic doublet lens using a special low-dispersion glass element that results in essentially non-existent chromatic aberration.
